The Carinthian municipality of Althofen is a diverse small town in the district of St. Veit an der Glan. The municipality is characterized by the large companies located here, which create important jobs, and by the local spa hotel. In addition to its economic focus, Althofen also attaches great importance to climate and sustainability issues, which is why it is part of a climate and energy model region and participates in various funding programs.
The municipality of Althofen is home to a variety of sensitive natural areas: the Althofen fens, the Ledererbach stream, the Gurk-Au along the Gurk river, the spa area and several green islands in the middle of the town. There are also architectural beauties such as the old town (an inhabited high settlement) and the nearby Töscheldorf Castle. The municipality would like to explore the question of how these natural jewels can be preserved, secured and made accessible for the future and linked together via a nature/cultural hiking trail.
